The Guidelines are designed to assist hospitals and health professionals working in hospitals reduce the risk of falling for older people receiving care.

The Guidelines contain the latest evidence and best practice, and are a supplement to the clinical judgement of health professionals providing care to older patients and those at risk of falling.

Guidebook for Preventing Falls and Harm From Falls in Older People: Australian Hospitals 2009

A short version, or guidebook, of Preventing Falls and Harm From Falls in Older People: Best Practice Guidelines for Australian Hospitals 2009 is designed for front line health professionals providing care for older patients and those at risk of falling. It contains the critical information from the guidelines needed to reduce the risk of falling by older patients and the harm experienced from falls. Included in the guidebook are key recommendations, good practice points, information on assessing for risk factors and providing interventions, points of interest and case studies. At about 100 pages, the guidebook is a short, practical guide to the larger guidelines (see above).

Hospital Falls Fact Sheets 2009

Falls fact sheets are designed to deliver the key messages from the Guidelines. They describe the roles allied health professionals, nurses, doctors, support staff and health managers have to play in reducing falls in hospitals.

In addition, a consumer fact sheet provides falls reduction messages for patients in hospitals and their carers.
