Guidelines for Local Management of the NIMC

There is a process for considering quality adjustments to the NIMC that will improve medication safety. The Jurisdictional Guidelines for Local Management of the National Inpatient Medication Chart provide information on:
  1. local management of change requests
  2. elevating change requests to the national level
  3. reporting decisions to stakeholders
  4. summary rationale for the NIMC (Attachment 1)
  5. details on which sections of the NIMC can be customised for local use (Attachment 2).
Requests for changes to the NIMC are required to be evidence-based and are considered at the local (State or Territory) level in the first instance. Requests that are not resolved at the local level are considered by the NIMC Oversight Committee and a register maintained of requests and outcomes.

The NIMC register is under development and will be available in late 2008.
