The Commission's role includes recommending national data sets for safety and quality. Health Information Standards for safety and quality include dataset and indicator specifications, and e-health standards.
Projects
- Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Data set specification (DSS) (version 3.0)
The data set specification is intended to support a minimum standard of Staphylococcus aureus (SAB) and Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) surveillance in Australian acute care hospitals by defining the data sets and elements for healthcare associated infections SAB and CDI. - Structured microbiology requesting and reporting formats for HAI
The project will develop structured formats for microbiology requesting and reporting on various healthcare associated infections (HAIs) in hospitals, starting with healthcare associated Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB), Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), central line associated bacteraemia (CLAB), and surgical site infections (SSI). The aim is to enhance clinical management, HAI surveillance and other reporting and research.
FINAL DRAFT Consensus statement and core information components for structured microbiology HAI requests and reports February 2011
Resolution of comments received on consensus statement and core information components for structured HAI requests and reports November 2010 - Core hospital-based indicators of safety and quality
This initial set of national core hospital-based outcome indicators of safety and quality focuses on mortality, admissions, readmissions, Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and obstetrics. The safety and quality value of the core indicators project lies in developing the report-review-act cycle based on the routine supply of timely and targeted data back to hospitals. - Classification of Hospital Acquired Diagnoses (CHADx)
The Classification of Hospital Acquired Diagnoses (CHADx) (pronounced 'Chaddix') will allow hospitals to track adverse events, as markers of patient safety, from administrative data. The Classification was developed by researchers at the Australian Centre for Economic Research on Health at the University of Queensland, and has recently been mapped to ICD-10-AM Seventh Edition.
