Commission Chairman
Mr Bill Beerworth was appointed Chairman of the Commission by Health Ministers on 15 December 2006. Mr Beerworth, Managing Director of Beerworth and Partners, is an investment banker with an extensive background in corporate law both in private and public sectors.
Bill is an Investment Banker with a background in Corporate Law.
He was educated in Australia and the United States and worked on Wall Street for 3 years.
He held a number of senior positions before founding Beerworth & Partners Limited:
- Executive Director of HSBC Australia
- Managing Director of HSBC Australia Corporate Finance
- A Senior Partner of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, one of Australia’s leading law firms, where he specialised in corporate law, particularly in Mergers & Acquisitions and IPOs
- Senior Assistant Secretary of the Australian Attorney-General’s Department responsible for Corporate and Securities policy
He has been Chairman or a non-Executive Director of a number of successful listed companies. He is a Director of Australand, a major diversified property company.
He is Chairman of Macquarie Graduate School of Management and is a member of the Australian Competition Tribunal.
He has been appointed by the Commonwealth and the States as Chairman of a new Commonwealth/State entity called the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.
He was a member of the Australian Financial System Inquiry (the Wallis Committee) whose Report was implemented by the Commonwealth Government to restructure the Australian Financial System.
