Dr Cathryn Murphy



Associate Professor Cathryn Murphy, RN, MPH, PhD, CIC holds an academic position in the Faculty of Health Services and Medicine, Bond University Australia.

Dr. Murphy’s career highlights include working as a guest researcher in the Division of Healthcare Quality and Infection Prevention at the CDC, Georgia in 2000 and completing a short-term mission throughout Southeast Asia with the World Health Organisation (WHO) during the height of the 2003 SARS Outbreak. She managed the NSW state government Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention and Control Program from 1997 until December 2004 with programmatic responsibility for more than 200 hospitals. In addition to her university appointment, she is currently a Managing Director of Infection Control Plus, an independent, international infection control consulting company. In 2006 she was honoured by the Australian Infection Control Association as the recipient of the inaugural Elaine Graham Robertson Award for excellence and innovation. She is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Australian and American Journals of Infection Control as well as the International Journal of Infection Control and is widely published. Following 18 years of global activity within the infection prevention and control she is currently serving on the Board of the US based Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Cathryn is also currently an invited consultant to the WHO and an invited member of WHO’s Informal Infection Control Network in Support of WHO’s Readiness and Response to Outbreaks.
