Dr Michael Whitby



Michael Whitby is a Registered Medical Practitioner in the State of Queensland. He holds the qualifications of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Master of Public Health from the University of Queensland and Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, both in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and of the Royal College of Pathologists of the United Kingdom, both in Medical Microbiology, a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine and the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

Michael is registered in the State of Queensland in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Pathology (Medical Microbiology). At present, he confines his practice to consultancy work in infection including clinical, laboratory and environmental aspects. He holds the positions of Director, Infection Management Services (Southern Queensland) based at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane and former Director, Centre for Health Care Related Infection Surveillance and Prevention, Brisbane. He holds the title of Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Queensland and Visiting Associate Professor, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales, Sydney. I have practised as an Infectious Diseases Physician for over twenty years and have particular interest and expertise in healthcare associated infection.
