The Commission has developed information about assessment to the NSQHS Standards and resources to support implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard.

Information about assessment to the NSQHS Standards

Implementing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard is a requirement for all health service organisations assessed against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, specifically Action 3.15. Health service organisations have until 1 January 2022 to implement the 2020 Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard.

Current resources

Advisory AS18/08: Antimicrobial Stewardship describes the assessment requirements for Actions 3.15 and 3.16 of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards for health service organisations, specifically in relation to surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis.

A number of resources are under development including:

  • Advisory AS20/03: Implementing the 2020 Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard describes the assessment requirements for Action 3.15 of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards for health service organisations implementing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard
  • A fact sheet for health service organisations, which will describe what the standard means for health service organisations, as described below.

 

What the quality statements mean for health service organisations

Indicators

A set of indicators has been developed to assist with local implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard. 

Detailed specifications for the 2020 Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard will be available on METeOR by the end of December 2020. METeOR is an Australian web-based repository of nationally endorsed data and indicator definitions, hosted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). METeOR links will be embedded in the table below when they are available.
