Purpose
To clarify requirements for general practices following the update to the RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition).
Issue
The RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition) were published in July 2017 and most recently updated in February 2023.
The update to the RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition) included the following changes:
- Indicator GP1.1C - Our recorded phone message advised patients to call 000 in case of an emergency has been updated to ‘flagged’
- Indicator GP5.2E - Our practice has a defibrillator has been updated to ‘flagged’
And updates to the following indicators:
- Indicator GP5.2A - Our practice has equipment that enables us to provide comprehensive primary care and emergency resuscitation now includes an electrocardiograph
- Indicator GP5.2D - Our practice has timely access to a spirometer
- Indicator C8.1B – Our non-clinical staff complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training at least once every three years
- Indicator GP3.1A – Members of our clinical team:
- have current national registration where applicable
- have accreditation/certification with their relevant professional association
- actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to their position and in accordance with their legal and professional organisation’s requirements
- have undertaken training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), in accordance with the recommendations of their professional organisation, or at least every three years
Requirements
General practices accredited under The National General Practice Scheme will transition to the updated RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition) by 27 February 2024.
Until 26 February 2024, assessors will accept evidence of implementation of either the previous or updated version of the RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition).
From 27 February 2024, assessors will only accept evidence of implementation of the updated RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition).
