The NSQHS Standards Assessor Orientation Course is freely available for anyone who would like to learn about the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (second edition). The online course is self-paced and includes learning material such as case studies, videos and tips for using the NSQHS Standards. Eleven modules cover an Introduction to the NSQHS Standards, Assessing Safety and Quality Systems, the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation (AHSSQA) Scheme, and each of the eight standards.

If you are an assessor of health service organisations implementing the NSQHS Standards:

  • You are required to complete every module in the NSQHS Standards Assessor Orientation Course and contribute to discussion forums.
  • Your responses to questions and discussion boards will be collected and reviewed by the Commission.
  • You will receive a certificate of completion after the Commission has determined that you have satisfactorily completed the requirements of the course.
  • A copy of the certificate of completion must be provided to your accrediting agency before you are eligible to assess a health service organisation using the NSQHS Standards (2nd ed.).

If you are not an assessor but would like a certificate for individual modules or a certificate of completion for the whole course:

  • You will need to complete the whole module (for individual module certificates) or the whole course (for a certificate of completion), including quizzes and short answer questions.
  • Your responses will not be reviewed by the Commission and you do not need to participate in any discussion forums.
  • Module certificates can be obtained at the end of each set of modules. A certificate of completion will be available when all 11 modules have been completed.

If you are not an assessor and do not want a certificate for individual modules or the whole course:

  • You will be able to move through the course in any order without submitting answers to activities.
  • If you do answer questions, your responses will not be reviewed by the Commission. You do not need to participate in any discussion forums.
