Health Information Standards for Safety and Quality

The Commission’s role includes recommending national data sets, and health information standards for safety and qualiity. These include Healthcare Associated Infection Data set specifications, and Core Information Components: structured requests and reports for HAIs.

Th Commission is currently working on the following two projects.

Healthcare Associated Infection Data set specification

This data set specification (DSS) aims to:

  • Support a comprehensive surveillance program of healthcare associated infections (HAI)
  • Support consistent local collection of HAI data
  • Embed national definitions for key elements
  • Promote and support consistent collection of reliable, comparable HAI surveillance data.

Core Information Components: structured requests and reports for Healthcare Associated Infections

The Commission has developed the  core information components of structured microbiology requests and reports for healthcare associated infections as a best practice health information standard. This work is a building block for the Commission’s national approach to surveillance of HAIs.
