This project supports a national approach to surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.

Core components are specified for:

  • Healthcare-associated Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia
  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections
  • Healthcare-associated Clostridium difficile infection
  • Surgical site infections.

The national approach aims to support clinical management, electronic surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, and other reporting and research. Use of the core components was validated in pilots in two metropolitan health services.
