This Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Clinical Care Standard was developed by the Commission in collaboration with consumers, clinicians, researchers and health service organisations. It complements existing efforts, including state and territory-based initiatives, which support the prevention of hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) in hospital and follow-up care in the community.

The standard was updated in January 2020. Amendments included a review and update of hyperlinks in the document, and guidance regarding dosing of medicines used to help prevent VTE in obese people (Quality statements 1 and 5).

An Implementation Guide for the Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Clinical Care Standard was released in December 2020.

This publication summarises medicines that were in use or being investigated to treat COVID-19 as at 7 October 2020. This publication remains available for reference but the information has not been updated since October 2020. The Commission acknowledges the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists for their contribution to this work.

For current resources, the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce has been established to provide evidence-based recommendations to guide care for people with COVID-19. The Taskforce undertakes detailed analyses of medicines for use in the treatment of COVID-19 which are updated as new research becomes available. The reviews are accompanied by therapy recommendations established through a consultation process.
