The Multi-Purpose Services Aged Care Module is a monitoring tool that is part of a suite of resources to assist multi-purpose services (MPS) to implement the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Multi-Purpose Services Aged Care Module.

The Multi-Purpose Services Aged Care Module (the MPS Aged Care Module) has been developed by the Commission in collaboration with the Australian Government, state and territory departments of health, and the Commission’s Multi-Purpose Services Project Advisory Committee. The MPS Aged Care Module describes, in six actions, the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards not covered by the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. It is only applicable to eligible MPS and was endorsed by the Australian Health Minister’s Advisory Council on 7 February 2020.

The purpose of this document is to provide practical guidance for managers and clinicians responsible for credentialing, and for determining and managing a clinician’s scope of clinical practice. This guide supports but does not replace or supersede state, territory or organisational policies, by-laws or rules on credentialing.

This planning resource is designed to support clinicians preparing for Antimicrobial Awareness Week; it is most suitable for the acute care environment but could be adapted for primary care settings.

The User Guide supports health services  to implement Action 1.28 of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. It explains how health services and their clinicians can use data to improve the appropriateness of clinical care. The guide was developed to support standardised national surveillance and reporting of healthcare-associated Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection (HA-SABSI) by Australian hospitals. It supersedes the Commission's 2016 Implementation Guide for Surveillance of Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia.
