The APS6 Project Officer, AURA, IPC / HAI, will be responsible for undertaking end-to-end procurement, project planning and management, contract management, budget planning, writing briefings and other documents for internal and/or external audiences, support of the help desk and other system support roles of the team. Support for committees, working groups, meetings, forums and workshops are key functions of this role.

The Commission is seeking high-performing research assistants, with experience conducting qualitative health research, to join a small team working on a project that supports the work of the new National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention. The project aims to identify personal, psychosocial, and systemic factors that have contributed to deaths by suicide amongst Australian Defence Force personnel and Veterans between 2001 and 2018.

The successful candidates will have:

  • Clinical and/or health experience; mental health experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated skills and experience conducting qualitative analysis
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis, particularly in mental health, is desirable
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate complex concepts in plain English
  • Effective and well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work within a small team
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work to challenging timeframes
  • Familiarity with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, the Privacy Act 1988, organisational privacy management practice, and demonstrated ability to work within these frameworks
  • A professional, positive, and solutions-focused approach to work
  • Understanding of the issues and challenges associated with the collection, use and analysis of healthcare data.

The piece of work is expected to be for a 10-month period with a possibility of extension and is open to labour hire candidates or candidates in the university or government sector seeking a secondment.

Candidates must have a right to work legally in Australia for a continuous period of at least 12 months to be eligible.

The Commission is seeking a non-ongoing Project Officer for a period of 9 months to support the Program Manager and work within a small team to assist in project and administrative activities of the Review.

This work will involve setting up and providing secretariat support for the Review’s committees, undertaking procurement activities and management of contracts, organising and assisting with public consultation processes, analysing information and drafting papers and providing project support.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent project management, time management and organisational skills
  • Effective and well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to negotiate, influence, and consult
  • Demonstrated project management experience to manage a range of competing projects and timeframes
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management and procurement, experience in SAP Concur is desirable
  • Experience in setting up expert committees, facilitating the work of committees through Secretariat activities, and engaging and communicating with stakeholders
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications desirable.
