NCTGF consultation for NSQHS Standards (third edition)

Closing 5 December 2025

The Commission is engaging in consultations in October and November 2025 to inform the development of the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework (NCTGF) and align with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (third edition). Find out how to get involved and have your say.

The aim of the NCTGF is to embed clinical trial services into routine health care provision to enhance safety and quality standards and health outcomes for the community. The NCTGF aligns with the Commission’s National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (second edition).

In June 2025 the Commission announced the development of the third edition of the NSQHS Standards. This presents an opportunity to refine and improve the actions that apply to the NCTGF.

Initial consultations are being held in October and November 2025. The Commission seeking input from the sector ensure the next edition is relevant, evidence-based, responsive to emerging challenges and innovations, outcomes focussed and can be integrated into routine health service organisation activities.

Written submissions are invited from individuals and organisations on how the NCTGF can be refined to ensure clinical trial services are a key part of health service organisation operations – now and into the future.

Some questions to consider when writing your submission:

  • What impact has the NCTGF had on the safety and quality of clinical trial patient care?
  • What impact has the NCTGF had on culture and attitude towards clinical trials?
  • What are the challenges or barriers to implementing the NCTGF?
  • What actions of the NCTGF are the most challenging and why?
  • How can the structure, format and language of the NCTGF be improved?
  • What is missing from NCTGF relating to safety and quality?

Email your submission to HMR@safetyandquality.gov.au.

Please indicate in your email whether the submission is from an individual or on behalf of an organisation.
