Amendment to the Requirements for Medical Testing for Human Genetic Variation

The Commission, in consultation with the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC), advises of an amendment to the language in Action 1.01 of the Requirements for Medical Testing for Human Genetic Variation.

The wording of Action 1.01 has been amended to clarify intent and improve consistency. 

The amendment recognises nurse practitioners and midwives as providers of referrals for medical human genetic testing to accredited laboratories.

The amendment is enforceable from 23 March 2026

The updated version of the Requirements for Medical Testing for Human Genetic Variation (Fourth Edition, 2026) is available on the Commission’s website.
