New fact sheet: Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme

The Commission has released a new fact sheet on the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS) to support practices in understanding accreditation requirements and maintaining compliance.

Accreditation provides the community with confidence that diagnostic imaging practices meet expected safety and quality standards. Practices must be accredited to provide Medicare-funded services under the Diagnostic Imaging Services Table.

The new fact sheet outlines:

  • The accreditation model – including requirements for full suite and entry level accreditation
  • Steps to becoming accredited – from obtaining a Location Specific Practice Number (LSPN) to assessment and audit practice
  • Activities not permitted by accredited practices – including backdating, and the impact this has on Medicare benefit eligibility if accreditation lapses.

This resource will help practices, accrediting agencies, and providers to better understand their responsibilities and the importance of timely accreditation.
