Update on the draft Medical Imaging Standards

The Commission has released the latest draft of the National Safety and Quality Medical Imaging Standards (draft Standards), ahead of a regulatory impact assessment.

In September 2024, the Commission undertook a public consultation seeking feedback on the draft Standards.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and provide input. We used this feedback to develop the draft Standards.

Next steps

The Commission is now undertaking a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) and working with health economists to complete a Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) on the implementation of the Standards.

Over the coming weeks, these health economists will contact stakeholders to gather feedback as part of the CBA process.

We expect the Standards to be implemented in early 2028.
