Antimicrobial resistance, which is also referred to as antibiotic resistance, is a very important health problem in Australia and internationally. Antibiotics are important medicines that are used to treat many infections. Inappropriate use of antibiotics increases antibiotic resistance and means that some antibiotics may no longer be effective.
