The Commission is seeking a full-time, non-ongoing EL1 Senior Communications Officer, Communications for a period of 12 months.

The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for working across a number of functions in relation to corporate communications within a small team. This role advises on and leads campaigns for promotion of a diverse range of publications and resources developed by the Commission for healthcare service providers and healthcare consumers. These campaigns are delivered in close collaboration with project teams.

The role is responsible for developing and delivering high quality, engaging and target audience specific content related to the Commission’s program areas across a range of print and digital platforms including website, and electronic direct mail and specialising in development of content for social media. The role also contributes to the strategic planning, development, guidance and implementation of communications processes and procedures to support the Commission in its role as the lead national agency for improving safety and quality in health care and ensuring its resources are disseminated widely to be used in practice across Australia.

This role will also be involved in internal communications programs and channels and editorial and communications planning.

Duties of the Senior Communications Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide specialist advice, manage and lead strategic use of communications channels to promote the overall work of the Commission and enhance the reputation of the Commission.
  2. Develop and lead communications strategies and campaigns to promote the awareness and use of Commission publications, resources and materials, including social media strategy and content
  3. Provide professional advice to project teams on communications and media approaches and appropriate scope for communications activities.
  4. Collaborate with project teams to initiate, create, develop and produce engaging content for a variety of audiences and  channels including print, digital and events within a structured communications project plan.
  5. Manage external communications service providers or communications team members as required.
  6. Guide and coach project officers as necessary in the development of communications materials or in communications procedures and processes or in the development of content.
  7. Provide support to other team members as required across a wide range of content development and project management and corporate communications.
  8. Contribute to measurement and evaluation of communications activities.
  9. Contribute to improvement of internal processes and approaches to communication.
  10. Collaborate with other teams across the Commission to ensure alignment with other work programs and strategic priorities
  11. Undertake other duties as required and directed.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading and managing strategic communications campaigns and communications projects within a small multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong ability to work with highly credentialled experts and complex content to achieve easily understandable and memorable messaging.
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in project management and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation, liaison and relationship building skills, with internal and external stakeholders, including managing media enquiries.
  • Demonstrated high level skills in writing across a number of formats and genres including web content, social media posts, EDMs and newsletters.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of digital communication technologies, with experience in social media strategy and content.
