EL1 Senior Project Officer, Intergovernment Relations

The Senior Project Officer is responsible for leading specified projects managed by the Intergovernment Relations Portfolio, with a focus on national coordination, Ministerial and departmental responses, scoping and refining issues, conducting consultations and analysis, and developing strategies and solutions to further support national safety and quality improvements. The role will also contribute to broader high-priority activities to support the portfolio. This will include undertaking research and analysis of information, project management, policy development, stakeholder management, facilitation of meetings, preparation of project documentation and collaborating with other relevant programs within the Commission.

Duties of the Senior Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. With the Executive Director and Acting Director, lead the planning and conceptualisation of strategies to support Intergovernment Relations projects.
  2. Advise on strategy, risk management and stakeholder engagement in relation to the key program areas.
  3. Undertake the complete range of procurement and project and contract management activities.
  4. Prepare high-quality written reports, briefs and other documents for a range of audiences
  5. Liaise with and foster productive relations with key stakeholders, including other agencies, clinical organisations, consumer groups, government authorities, the private health sector, industry bodies and contractors.
  6. Consult with and provide advice to colleagues, including Commission Executive, about progress of key programs and their strategic implications.
  7. Manage and provide secretariat for advisory groups.
  8. Other duties as required and directed.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent policy development and project management experience relevant to safety and quality, health care.
  • Demonstrated high level research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills, including the ability to write high quality documents for a variety of audiences and in different formats.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, in particular, an excellent ability to consult and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian healthcare system and a sophisticated understanding of the key elements of healthcare safety and quality.
