EL1 Senior Project Officer, MedicineInsight

The Measurement for Improvement Program (MFI) is responsible for a range of projects to support the feedback of safety and quality data to multiple levels of the health system including consumers, clinicians, administrators and funders. This work also supports the Commission’s national health information role and commitments under the National Health Reform Act 2011, and the National Health Reform and Information Agreements. 

MedicineInsight operates within the MFI after the transition to the Commission in January 2023 when the Commission became the custodian of a range of Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) functions. MedicineInsight is a quality improvement program using data from Australian general practices to support best practice and the post-market surveillance of medicines. It allows general practitioners to reflect on their prescribing patterns and patient care and review their practice results as well as the aggregate of all participating MedicineInsight practices. Participating practices are offered customised quality improvement recommendations that align with best practice and identify key areas for improvement which benefit patients. 

The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for leading the work on local quality improvement activities and national quality use of medicine priorities for primary care including the development of reports to meet mandatory obligations. The role will play a key role in development and facilitation of continuing professional development (CPD) activities for general practitioners and collaborate with colleges and professional bodies to align MedicineInsight activities with CPD mandatory requirements. The role will  include undertaking research and analysis of information, project management, stakeholder management, facilitation of meetings, preparation of project documentation and collaborating with other relevant programs within the Commission. 

Duties of the Senior Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. With the Manager, lead the planning and conceptualisation of strategies to support development and implementation of quality improvement activities for primary care, including engagement with relevant colleges and primary care sector entities.
2. Manage the continuing professional development communications and resources to ensure clarity and accessibility for participating practices.
3. Prepare high-quality written reports, briefs and other documents for a range of audiences to promote awareness of MedicineInsight in the primary care sector and fulfill mandatory reporting obligations.
4. Incorporate pharmacological and medication usage insights and apply clinical knowledge to interpret MedicineInsight data to ensure accuracy, relevance and impact of reports.
5. Undertake project management activities including project planning and documentation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on progress; providing recommendations about managing risk and identifying and resolving problems.
6. Build and maintain awareness of the MedicineInsight program with the general practice community, relevant Colleges, peak bodies and research institutions to promote the value and impact of MedicineInsight across the primary care sector.
7. Collaborate with other teams across the Commission to ensure alignment with other work programs and strategic priorities, in particular to MedicineInsight reports.
8. Consult with experts and stakeholders including development of consultation strategies and coordination of formal consultation processes to achieve the objectives of the program.
9. Liaise, and foster productive working relationships with other agencies, clinical organisations, consumer groups, government authorities, industry bodies and contractors.
10. Participate in, and present to, committee meetings, forums and workshops on relevant topics.
11. Other duties as required and directed.

The successful candidate will have:

• Excellent project management experience relevant to safety and quality in the primary health care setting
• Demonstrated high level research and analytical skills, including the ability to translate data into clinical improvement actions in primary care
• Demonstrated excellent writing skills, including the ability to write high quality documents for a variety of audiences and in different formats.
• Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, in particular, an excellent ability to consult and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
• A high level of knowledge and comprehensive understanding of key safety and quality issues relevant to the MedicineInsight program.
