The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards provide a framework for delivering high-quality health care across the continuum of care.
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) is developing the NSQHS Standards (third edition) to improve patient care into the future.
Commencing today, the Commission is undertaking broad public consultation to inform the development of the NSQHS Standards (third edition), in collaboration with the healthcare system and community representatives.
We are seeking to understand health system needs to ensure the next edition of the standards is relevant, evidence-based, responsive to emerging challenges and innovations in health care, outcomes focussed and integrated within health service organisations.
The Commission will consult with key stakeholders nationally, including health services, clinicians, clinical experts, consumers, peak bodies and Australian Government, state and territory health departments.
How to have your say
The Commission is seeking feedback in several ways, including:
- written submission via email
- online surveys
- face-to-face meetings in each state and territory
- online focus groups (from September).
Feedback will inform the development of the NSQHS Standards (third edition), with a draft planned for consultation in 2026.
