The Usability Guidance for Optimising My Health Record Viewing Platforms in Acute Care (the Guide) offers practical recommendations for health services and software vendors to improve interface design and navigation.
User-friendly viewing platforms will encourage greater clinician use and enhance patient care, supporting clinicians working in time-critical environments to:
- access key patient information quickly
- support safer, more informed decisions
- improve workflow efficiency.
Six areas of opportunity outlined in the Guide are:
- best‑practice product design
- visibility of record status and content
- intuitive navigation
- clear information flow and display
- consistent terminology
- usable emergency and restricted access controls.
Clinicians are encouraged to use the new Guide to advocate for improvements in the design and usability of the viewing platform in their workplaces.
