Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death and disease burden in Australia. General practitioners play a critical role in slowing disease progression through early and accurate diagnosis, supported by evidence-based management.
To help GPs reflect on and strengthen their approach to managing COPD, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care will soon release Practice Reflections: COPD.
This free initiative provides each eligible GP with a personalised, confidential report based on their own MBS data. The report highlights:
- Use of office-spirometry compared with peers located in a similar area (e.g. city, regional or remote practices)
- Opportunities to align with best-practice COPD management guidelines
- Resources to support professional development.
Practice Reflections are designed to support self-directed quality improvement. It is not an audit, only the individual GP has access to their office-spirometry data.
By providing clear, practical insights, Practice Reflections aims to support early and accurate diagnosis, reduce the risk of exacerbations, and improve long-term outcomes for patients living with COPD.
Look out for your printed Practice Reflections: COPD report in early December.
