This report documents changes in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) which occurred in Australia between 2000 to 2014. 

As part of the work of the Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Australia (AURA) Surveillance System, analyses of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteraemia data collected by the Australian Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AGAR) from 2013 to 2018 identified important national and state and territory trends. These trends can be used to inform local therapeutic, quality improvement and infection prevention and control initiatives.

The Antimicrobial Medicines Dispensing from 2013–14 to 2017–18 report is the first analysis to probe antimicrobial prescribing at every level over five years – national, state and territory, Primary Health Network (PHN) and local area.  It is available in interactive format.

Quality Use of Medicines and Medicines Safety was made the 10th National Health Priority Area in 2019 by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Health Council. The Commission are developing a National Baseline Report on Quality Use of Medicines and Medicines Safety in response to this initiative. This discussion paper was published to support the public consultation which informed Phase 1 of the National Baseline Report.
