Australians choosing to have cosmetic surgery will be better protected by new standards introduced today. These will improve patient safety in facilities where cosmetic surgery is performed.
This fact sheet has been developed at the request of the Department of Health and Aged Care. It aims to assist health service organisations (HSOs) and clinicians understand and manage the safety issues related to a worldwide shortage, and disruption to the supply of benzathine benzylpenicillin (Bicillin L-A) in Australia.
This fact sheet is for use during a period of shortage only. The fact sheet was updated in August 2025 to include additional S19A approved products.
