PROM Recommendations
The Commission is piloting the development of evidence- and consensus-based recommendations for PROMs for specific conditions to maximise clinical usefulness and minimise survey fatigue.
Overview
There are hundreds of validated PROMs available for clinicians and healthcare services to select from, and the development of new PROMs is increasing. The Commission aims to support clinicians and healthcare services with selecting PROMs for specific conditions by developing evidence- and consensus-based recommendations on:
- Outcomes that are relevant to people with a specific condition
- Existing and validated PROMs that best measure those outcomes
- When to collect these PROMs.
PROM Recommendations for Low Back Pain
Low back pain affects most people at some point in their lives. It often leads to psychological distress, poorer quality of life, and is the leading case of disability worldwide.
Using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can support clinicians to:
- Partner with patients in the management of their pain
- Assess and monitor the progress of low back pain and interventions from the patient’s perspective.
