We provide information about public and private hospitals in our Safety in Health Care web tool.

By using the tool, you can learn more about how we assess the safety and quality of public and private hospitals in Australia. Take a closer look at the quality hospitals are expected to achieve and learn about the indicators that help us evaluate whether those expectations are being met. How does the safety in health care web tool help me?

Everyone has a right to know about the quality of the care provided in Australian hospitals. Having a better understanding about what safety and quality means, and knowing more about what's happening at your hospital, can help you make decisions about your health, or the health of a loved one.

Evidence shows that increasing transparency in the health system by publicly reporting safety and quality data drives improvements in the safety and quality of our hospitals.

Some safety and quality data are already available to the public, published by sources including hospitals, government departments and national reporting initiatives. However, this information is not reported consistently and can be difficult to access and understand. Our tool is designed to help you understand where hospitals are doing well and where they need to do better, so you feel confident about the safety and quality of care you or your loved one is going to receive.
