Chris Leahy

Chris Leahy was appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer in September 2022. The Board appointed him to lead the Commission for an interim period while a permanent CEO is recruited, recognising his excellent knowledge and experience of our work and the wider health system. Chris’ substantive role at the Commission is as the Chief Operating Officer, a position he has held since October 2021. Prior to this, he held a variety of positions including Director eHealth and Medication Safety and Directory Safety and Quality Improvement Systems. He has an in-depth understanding of the complex issues surrounding healthcare, and the implementation of standards and policies that improve safety and quality.

Prior to joining the Commission, Chris held senior managerial positions in large acute hospitals, community health, drug health, mental health and oral health services, across Sydney and South Western Sydney Local Health Districts. He has a Masters of Health Service Management, was a senior adjunct lecturer with Flinders University in the College of Business, Government & Law, and is currently undertaking further education through a Juris Doctor at UTS.
