The list of AHR conditions and associated time intervals are maintained by the Commission, with updates to reflect the latest ICD-10-AM edition codes as they are released by the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority.

Two groupers have been developed to support the implementation of the hospital-acquired complications (HACs) list. These tools can be used by hospitals, health services and system managers to identify and monitor HACs.

These fact sheets, and other HACs resources released by the Commission, have been developed to support clinicians and others to reduce the occurrence and impact of HACs. 

SAMM specifications serve as indicative flags for records that may warrant review. Record level review may be required to identify the exact SAMM condition and category described, on top of the given code combinations.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission), working in collaboration with the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA), engaged Health Policy Analysis to analyse hospital-acquired diagnoses and their effect on case complexity and resource use.

This paper has been prepared by the Commission and IHPA to supplement the research undertaken to date with regards to pricing for safety and quality in health care.
