Audit tools – NHHI
There are a number of tools available to support hand hygiene auditing in acute and non-acute healthcare settings.
The following tools are available to support hand hygiene auditing in facilities where the HHCApp Mobile is not used for data collection:
5 Moments for Hand Hygiene compliance audit tools
Audit tools for non-acute settings, including primary care and mental health
Routine hand hygiene compliance auditing with the 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene audit tool is not recommended for non-acute, primary care or mental health settings. However, all facilities should be aware of their jurisdictional requirements when planning measurement of their hand hygiene program.
Other measures may be appropriate for local assessment of a hand hygiene program or they may be used in conjunction with hand hygiene compliance auditing.
The assessment tools below can be used or modified for local assessment:
Audit tools for Dental
Some dental services may decide, based on a risk assessment, to undertake hand hygiene auditing by direct observation in addition to (or instead of) using program evaluation tools. Recognising that the auditing methodology developed for acute hospitals may not apply to the dental setting, guidance is provided regarding the collection of representative hand hygiene compliance data by solo, group and, hospital - based dental services as part of the NHHI, including the establishment of dental/oral health specific health care worker and department codes.
