Accreditation
Accreditation is a formal process where health services are assessed against nationally recognised standards. It is a quality assurance mechanism that tests whether relevant systems are in place to ensure that expected standards of safety and quality are met.
Assessment is the process of an independent third party reviewing whether a service has met standards. Accreditation is the outcome awarded to successful services.
We operate accreditation schemes that provide national coordination of accreditation, and ensure policies and procedures are in place to keep the accreditation process effective and transparent.
We oversee accreditation in a wide range of health settings and work right across the health system to ensure expected standards of safety and quality continue to be met.
We also publish assessment outcomes data and maintain registers of accredited services as part of our commitment to public reporting.
