Assessor Orientation
The Assessor Orientation training modules are foundational to understanding our National Safety and Quality Standards. They aim to ensure that new assessors have the appropriate skills and knowledge to:
- Work within the rules of the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation (AHSSQA) Scheme
- Practically apply structured frameworks for an assessment
- Locate and use resources developed to support assessment and implementation of National Safety and Quality Standards.
Who it’s for
Assessors and health professionals.
Registration is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the assessment process.
Becoming an assessor
To become an assessor, you must complete training prior to commencing assessments. The accrediting agency you are working for will have details of the required training and recruitment process.
The Assessor Orientation course must be completed when there are no other prescribed courses for the standards you will be assessing to.
On completion
Assessors will receive a certificate of completion and a unique assessor ID upon completion of required modules.
Certificates are also available to health professionals and consumers upon completion. Health professionals may use these as evidence of self-directed Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity.
Registration and enrolment
You can create an account free of charge on the website. Once your registration is complete and you’ve logged in, you’ll be able to browse available courses and enrol yourself in any courses that are relevant to you.
To reduce duplication, please do not register multiple times.
New and recently updated
An updated, shorter NSQHS Standards orientation course is now available. This course describes the rules of the AHSSQA Scheme and demonstrates the process for conducting an accreditation assessment.
The updated course consists of three modules:
- Module 1: AHSSQA scheme
- Module 2: National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards
- Module 3: Clinical Governance.
Actions from each Standard have been selected to highlight how an assessment is conducted using the PICMoRS assessment framework. The modules include questions to test trainee knowledge.
Each module takes around 60 minutes to complete and is accompanied by a training compendium that provides links to resources and other material.
All NSQHS Standards 2019c courses have now closed, however certificates of completion will remain available.
