National Pathology Standard Consultation

Closed 8 December 2025

The Commission is seeking feedback on the revised National Pathology Standard from the pathology workforce and consumers.

Outcome of consultation

Following the consultation, the Commission will:

  1. Analyse the feedback with the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC)
  2. Finalise the National Pathology Standard for release in 2026

Overview

The National Pathology Standard was developed following extensive consultation with clinical scientists, clinicians consumers, pathologists, pathology practices, professional bodies, regulators, scientists, technicians and other representatives from the sector. The standard is now undergoing a second round of consultation to ensure revisions made are applicable to the pathology sector.

The standard aims to protect the public from harm and improve the quality of pathology services delivered by pathology practices. The National Pathology Standard will replace the existing Requirements for Medical Pathology Services.
