National Safety and Quality Standards for Assisted Reproductive Technology Services Consultation

Public consultation now open

We are seeking feedback on the initial draft of the National Safety and Quality Assisted Reproductive Technology Service Standards including whether they:

  • reflect key safety and quality priorities
  • clearly describe expectations for assisted reproductive technology (ART) providers
  • support the delivery of high-quality care
  • are clear, easy to understand and free from unnecessary duplication
  • adequately cover safety and quality concerns in ART.

We have developed two different surveys as part of this consultation.

We welcome you to complete both surveys.

If you would like a copy of the survey questions as a shareable word document to prepare your response, please email us.

If you would like to provide a written submission, you may do so as attachments in response to Question 9 in the Consumer survey or Question 15 in the ART Sector survey.

We encourage you to review the consultation draft of the ART Standards before providing feedback.

The consultation is open from Monday 10 August and closes Sunday 6 September 2026.

Consumer survey

This survey uses plain language to describe the Standards and the safety and quality concepts they aim to address. It uses broad “Consumer Outcome Statements” and reflective prompts to encourage feedback on whether we have missed any safety and quality concepts and asks what Actions could be included to address them.

This survey is intended for consumers, donors, donor conceived people, people conceived through ART, and the public to complete.

ART sector survey

This survey uses technical language to ask whether the draft Standards adequately address contemporary risks, what risks we may have missed, technical considerations, and what areas require further development.

This survey is intended for, but not limited to:

  • healthcare professionals (including fertility specialists)
  • laboratory professionals (including clinical embryologists)
  • peak bodies (including advocacy and industry bodies)
  • researchers
  • accreditation agencies and assessors
  • government agencies (including regulators)
  • consumers and people with lived experience
  • donors, donor conceived people, people conceived through ART

Next steps

Following the consultation, we will:

  1. Review and analyse the survey feedback
  2. Use the feedback to inform the scope and priorities of the Standard
  3. Update the Standard with input from our Assisted Reproductive Technology Industry Advisory Group
  4. Seek targeted feedback on the draft revised Standards
  5. Release the final Standards in 2027 for piloting with the ART sector.
