What we heard

During our first public consultation in 2025, we heard from stakeholders that:

  • the NSQHS Standards are a vital, trusted foundation for safe, high-quality care in Australia
  • the core intent of the Standards should remain
  • actions must evolve to address priorities now and into the future.

What's changing?

The third edition of the NSQHS Standards:

  • responds to known system pressures and gaps identified since earlier editions of the Standards
  • reflects a shift in focus from specifying clinical processes to prioritising how patients experience care
  • has streamlined the number of Standards to encourage greater integration within health services and practical application at the point of care.

Explore The Rationale for Change to understand what we heard and how those insights shaped the proposed Standards.
