The Commission’s theme for IPC Week 2026 is Past, present, prepared for the future.

This year’s theme recognises the progress made in infection prevention and control, reinforces the importance of consistent IPC practices today, and highlights the actions needed to ensure patients, communities and healthcare workers remain protected into the future.

Our IPC Week resources help raise awareness of the role everyone plays in preventing infections by consistently applying standard precautions, including hand hygiene, safe sharps management, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, for every patient, every time.

They also assist organisations to strengthen IPC practices to help ensure our health system remains resilient and responsive to future infection risks through risk management, surveillance, quality improvement, and ongoing education for staff, patients and communities.
