The Aged Care Infection Prevention and Control Guide
This Guide supports implementation of the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and supplements the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare for the aged care workforce and those providing care for older people. The Guide outlines the basic principles of infection prevention and control and explains how to apply these principles using a risk-based approach.
Version 1.1 which was published on 21 January 2025, includes the following updates:
- Updated Table 15 in Chapter 4 to align information about Adenovirus (respiratory), Rhinovirus and Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) with the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare.
- Updated Table 16 in Chapter 4 to align information about Rotavirus (gastroenteritis), Clostridioides difficile and Norovirus with the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare.
- Additional section titled ‘Amendments to the Aged Care IPC Guide’ which outlines changes made to the content of the Guide.
